J. B. S. Haldane and the unknown

J. B. S. Haldane (1892-1964) was a British biologist best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. Wikipedia says,
"Haldane's article on abiogenesis in 1929 introduced the 'primordial soup theory', which became the foundation for the concept of the chemical origin of life." (Wikipedia: J. B. S. Haldane, 4.17.22, UTC 04:40)
The rest of this post is some quotes from Haldane.

Unknown

"Now, my own suspicion is that the universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose... I suspect that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of, or can be dreamed of, in any philosophy." (Possible Worlds, 1927)

"I have no doubt that in reality the future will be vastly more surprising than anything I can imagine." (The Last Judgement, 1927)

Evolution

"Where natural selection slackens, new forms may arise which would not survive under more rigid competition, and many ultimately hardy combinations will thus have a chance of arising." (The Causes of Evolution, 1932)
