  • 1668: Constructs first reflecting telescope
  • 1669: Becomes professor at University of Cambridge
  • 1672: Presents reflecting telescope to the Royal Society
  • 1672: Elected fellow of the Royal Society
  • 1687: Publishes Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica
  • 1696: Becomes warden of the Royal Mint
  • 1703: Becomes president of the Royal Society
  • 1704: Publishes Opticks
  • 1727: Died at age 82 in Kensington, England
